These springs support the heavy weight of the door panels that guard the garage entry.

Without any functional and well-adjusted spring, you may end up in a very hazardous situation.

As door panels travel up and down the tracks, enough force should counteract the movement.

Broken springs result in door panels that may fall fast downward.

Unadjusted springs on either spring also result in an unbalanced force between both sides of door panels.

As such, when the time comes, it’s best to book a garage door spring replacement.

Newer springs offer better support and last longer than old springs in the mechanism.

With this, we are here to offer our work in town.

We are Washington’s Garage Doors, and we are here to offer our garage door repair and replacement service.

Our team of professional technicians can handle the heavy work that involves any garage door.

Before booking for our replacement service to your old springs, there are some things you should consider.

    Types of springs

There are two types of springs for any garage door system.

It’s essential to figure out your spring type so you can purchase the correct spring for your model.

Each spring has a different installation and setup inside any garage.

    Torsion spring

A torsion spring is a type of spring that utilizes a torque force to support loads.

Torque is the rotational force around an axis.

For example, the starting point in the garage is a closed garage entrance where the door panels are down.

The torsion spring is under high force and will be in a tight position on top of the entry.

As you open the garage, the torsion springs rotate and eventually unwind to provide the force to lift the door panels.

The movement of the door panels depends on whether the springs rotate around its rod and provide enough force to lift hefty loads.

Pro: Torsion springs are thicker in grade and material, and these springs tend to last longer.

Con: Torsion springs are more expensive.

    Tension spring

The other type of spring is the tension springs or extension springs.

Tension force is the force present in tension springs.

The tension springs work in reverse as the torsion springs.

For example, when you close the garage, the tension springs stretch out to support and hold door panels down the tracks.

As you open the garage, the tension spring loses tension as it pulls up the door panels along the door tracks.

Broken tension springs can’t carry the door panels as nothing connects and supports the door cables that hook towards the top panels.

Pro: Tension springs are more affordable than torsion springs.

Con: Tension springs always work in pairs to support each side of the garage.

    Benefits of spring replacement

If you’re still thinking about getting a new replacement, here are some reasons to do so:

    More durable springs

New springs are more durable than old springs that have undergone thousands of cycles inside the garage.

Because of too much use, it’s impossible not to get signs of wear and tear with the springs.

Durable springs can give you more cycles around the garage.

    Prevents danger

    Old springs are less durable.

You never know, but you may already be inside a garage with a spring that can snap at any time.

This is significantly more applicable to tension springs that can snap and make the garage hazardous.

    Better support

New springs provide better support for door panels.

While the door panels may remain the same weight and material, the springs degrade and become less reliable over time.

It’s better to invest in new springs than experience slow-moving door panels inside the tracks.
